What is gum disease and gum therapy?

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a result of a bacterial infection in the gums. It affects many Canadians, and is even the leading cause of tooth loss in Canada. We will work with our patients who have gum disease to come up with a comprehensive treatment gum therapy plan.

What are the symptoms of gum disease that need gum therapy?

Gum disease shows itself in many different ways. It can start off with no symptoms at all. Other symptoms can include:

  • bleeding gums
  • sore gums
  • receding gums
  • tender gums
  • mouth sores
  • bright purple or red-purple gums

Our dentist and dental hygienists will work with you to create a customized treatment plan best suited to your situation. Your dental team will also help create an at-home plan for you to maintain your oral health when you are not at the office.
