At St. Joseph Orleans Dental Centre, our dentists perform gum grafts for patients who have excessive gum recession and need to protect their teeth from damage.

What is a gum graft?

A gum graft is an oral surgery procedure that is used to thickens gums. You may need this surgery to protect your teeth from the damaging effects of gum recession. Gum grafting can also be done for aesthetic purposes.

How long is the procedure?

Depending on the level of gum recession, your surgery could take 1-2 hours.

Will I experience any discomfort while in the gum graft procedure?

Your dentist will provide you with anesthetic during the gum grafting procedure. This means your mouth will be frozen in the treatment area.

How long is the healing process?

While it may take a few weeks for your mouth to fully heal, you should be able to get back to work or daily routine the next day. You will be able to go home after the procedure as your dentist will give you instructions on how to care of your mouth after your gum graft procedure.

Gum grafting might be recommended for you if you are experiencing gum recession.
